Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Dietitian to join our Dietetic team at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. This is a fantastic opportunity for either experienced or newly qualified Dietitians.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who want to consolidate and improve their clinical and communication skills. We are committed to your professional and personal development. The Trust has a dynamic Preceptorship Programme for all AHPs and we have an in-house service CPD Programme as well.

The post will offer you a range of clinical experience including general medicine, surgery, care of the elderly and general outpatient clinics. You will also have the opportunity to work with specialist and clinical lead Dietitians within your area of work as well as shadowing opportunities in areas such as Home Enteral Feeding, Bariatrics, Oncology, Critical Care, Paediatrics and Renal.

The team is actively involved in dietetic student training placements and there is scope for the successful candidate to contribute significantly in this. There will also be opportunity to further develop supervisory skills through supporting our Dietetic Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

You will cover a variety of different acute inpatient wards including general medicine, surgery and care of the elderly as well as a weekly general outpatient clinic. The post will be based at the Princess Royal Hospital, with an expectation to work across both Sites as required. Sound Communication skills and commitment to work within our Trust values are essential.

Key Duties include:

  • To ensure that appropriate and best practice / evidence-based advice on nutrition and dietetic issues is available to patients, clients and health professionals within the remit of the post holder’s duties.
  • To maintain and demonstrate a personal development plan to ensure continued professional development.
  • To demonstrate responsibility for managing workload and meeting targets.
  • The post holder will work in close co-operation with colleagues within all Care Groups to deliver a cohesive service that is user led ensuring a consistently high standard of patient care, optimal flow and safe timely discharge
  • To act as a source of Dietetic advice and support within the Therapy Centre and across the Trust and wider Health economy
  • To have highly effective communication skills and demonstrate these on a continual basis with patients, carers, colleagues and the wider Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT).
