Description Overview

The Production Team Manager is part of the production management team and manages a team of operators (typically 10–20 people, sometimes more temporarily) responsible for activities across a group of production lines in manufacturing or packing. Additional reports may include Line Coordinators (packing) and Tool Room Technicians (manufacturing).

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieving safety, quality, volume, cost, and behavioural targets.
  • Escalating deviations promptly.
  • Managing training, appraisals, attendance reviews, recruitment support, and disciplinary investigations.
  • Reporting to the Production Shift Manager and liaising with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Quality) and occasionally external stakeholders.
Scope of the Role
  • Manage production line activities to meet the production plan and optimise priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Lead investigations and improvement projects related to safety, quality, productivity, cost, or behaviour.
  • Maintain and update procedural documentation.
  • Motivate the team to achieve targets such as safety inspections, production plan adherence, and cost improvements.
  • Conduct reviews, appraisals, and attendance management.
  • Develop and implement training plans.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and Health & Safety policies. Act as a role model for safety and quality culture.
Experience Required3>
  • Numeracy and literacy skills to at least Level 2 (Maths and English).
  • Competent in MS Office.
Desirable
  • 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
  • Working knowledge of quality systems in a regulated environment.
  • Recognised supervision and/or continuous improvement qualification.
