About the buildings unit

The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald’s regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross‑sector skills across five key sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

Overview of the role

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Act as the central point of coordination for all members of the TA team
  • Manage the interface between the TA team and the Design Team Lead
  • Ensure timely and effective collaboration among all TA disciplines
  • Oversee the delivery of services to ensure they meet quality, time, and budget expectations
  • Ensure that all statutory and client approvals are obtained as required
  • Lead the preparation and submission of all required documents and reports
  • Maintain ongoing consultation with the client and design team throughout all project stages
  • Ensure that communication is clear, consistent, and responsive to client needs
  • Identify and manage changes to the scope of services, including those arising from client instructions
  • Maintain comprehensive records of decisions, approvals, and project progress
  • Preparation and maintenance of programmes and schedules, including dependencies and resources
  • Identify and monitor project risks and opportunities
  • Lead project governance reviews
  • Successful administration of the JCT suite of contracts (or similar) for professional and contractor commissions as dictated by the projects, addressing performance to ensure contractually successful outcomes
  • Liaise with the project’s health, safety and wellbeing representative, acting on advice provided to ensure that project / contractor CDM and Health and Safety compliance matters are satisfactorily discharged and/or adhered to
  • Project management expertise across a range of disciplines, contract/procurement routes and market sectors
  • Expert communication skills including writing reports and presenting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work, this may involve regular travel to construction sites / client offices
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving
  • Strong leadership and team coordination
  • Technical rigour and attention to detail
  • Experience working on education sector ideally DfE Framework projects, or equivalent across other sectors
  • APM Chartered Project Professional status (ChPP), or equivalent Chartership
  • Ability to operate both autonomously and as a part of a larger team
  • Line management or team leader experience
