A leading motorsports team in the UK is looking for a DIL Development Engineer who will lead the development of a world-class Driver-in-the-Loop simulation environment. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics, and prior experience in Formula 1 or top-tier motorsport. Responsibilities include pushing simulation boundaries, ensuring seamless integration into wider systems, and developing reliable performance platforms. This innovative role requires hands-on experience with various simulation tools and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
As our DIL Development Engineer, you'll be a driving force in the DIL (Driver-In-the-Loop) Development Team, whose mission is: to deliver a world-leading Driver-in-the-Loop simulation environment.
This role is a cornerstone of the team's significant recent investment in this critical area, underscored by the acquisition of a new, state-of-the-art DIL simulator. This facility is at the heart of our performance programme, essential for validating vehicle concepts, optimising driver performance, and making mission‑critical decisions that directly translate to on‑track success.
The role requires a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics (or related field) and prior experience in Formula 1 or top‑tier motorsport within vehicle dynamics, performance, or race engineering.
You must have hands‑on experience with Driver‑in‑the‑Loop or real‑time simulation systems (e.g. dSPACE, Speedgoat, Beckhoff), strong proficiency in simulation and data analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and Python, and a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, HIL systems, motion platforms, telemetry, and performance optimisation. Experience with rFpro and good software development practices are advantageous.
The ideal person is a clear communicator and team player with a pragmatic, hands‑on approach to problem solving. They are highly organised, resilient under pressure, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and a curious mind are essential!
