Job description
About Lawhive

We're on a mission to make sure everyone has access to the law.
Lawhive is an online platform for consumers and small businesses to get legal help for a fraction of the cost of a law firm. Our platform combines regulated human lawyers collaborating alongside the world’s first AI lawyer, specifically built for consumer legal work.

Equal access to the law is one of the biggest and most pressing unsolved problems in society today. We’re passionate about leveling the playing field and believe access to the law should be a basic utility in society.

Our AI lawyer Lawrence is built on top of our own fine tuned LLM and recently passed the UK’s bar exam equivalent.

We’re backed by some of the top US and UK VC funds including Google Ventures, Balderton Capital and TQ Ventures. We recently secured a $40M Series A funding round to facilitate international expansion and to grow our team, representing one of the five largest Series A rounds in Europe for 2024.

The Role

You’ll be one of the first QA Engineers at Lawhive and will play a key role in building out our test automation capability as we scale. You’ll work closely with product, engineering and legal teams to help us maintain a high bar for software quality across our platform, including AI and LLM powered functionality used by lawyers and their clients every day.

This is a hands on senior role with plenty of scope to influence how we approach testing and quality, without line management responsibilities.

What the job involves
  • Contributing to and improving our testing infrastructure to increase product quality and reduce regressions in AI first software
  • Working closely with product teams and our lawyer users to validate new functionality, improve test coverage and strengthen our overall quality practices
  • Building and maintaining automated test suites that keep pace with rapid product development across our product and AI functions
  • Partnering with engineers to embed good testing practices into day to day development and CI pipelines
  • Helping define and monitor key user flows, quality checks and metrics, and contributing to monitoring and reporting alongside platform and DevOps engineers
Our Engineering Culture
  • Ship daily - We’re building and releasing features fast, going from idea to production in hours rather than weeks.
  • Empathise with users - Lawyers and legal clients have unique perspectives, preferences and expectations. We build products which understand them deeply.
  • Strive for excellence - We’re ambitious and moving fast. The whole business is pushing to be a category defining legal tech company.
  • Constantly learning and experimenting - We’re at the cutting edge of using AI to directly improve people’s lives. We take a blue-sky but pragmatic approach to how we apply new technologies.
Our tech stack and day to day tools are:
  • TypeScript for the majority of our applications, frontends, and microservices
  • Python for data ingestion and our AI services
  • AWS for our cloud infrastructure
  • Postgres for our data storage
  • Terraform for defining infrastructure as code
What you’ll bring
  • You are very comfortable with automated testing tools and frameworks across web, TypeScript and Python ecosystems end to end (for example Playwright, GitHub Actions, Vitest, Pytest)
  • You have strong experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks in fast moving engineering teams
  • You have collaborated closely with engineers and infrastructure teams to improve testing practices and overall software quality
  • You are familiar with AI powered software and understand the testing challenges posed by non deterministic systems
Interview process
  • Introductory call with our Talent team
  • 1:1 with your hiring manager
  • Technical interview
  • Values interview with our CTO/Co-founder
  • We offer!
