COULD A BBC APPRENTICESHIP BE THE NEXT ROLE FOR YOU?

Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to give yourself the opportunity to kick‑start a career in a job you’ll love. We’re committed to your skills and talent development. You’ll learn on‑the‑job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you while working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

WHY JOIN THIS SCHEME?

This is your chance to launch a career at the very heart of British broadcasting. We’re looking for individuals with a passion to find out how we make content and bring ideas to life. Depending on your placement area, you could be working behind the scenes on exciting productions, from gripping dramas to the thrill of live radio, and gain a recognised qualification while learning on the job. This is your opportunity to widen your production knowledge while working on content that matters to millions.

To find out more about the schemes we offer, you can register to join one of our webinars. The webinar for this scheme takes place on Wednesday 10 December at 6 pm. If you’re unable to attend, the video will be posted on our YouTube playlist.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

BBC Local Radio Cambridgeshire operates a network of radio stations across England and the Channel Islands, delivering trusted local news, information and entertainment. While our shows are primarily studio‑based, we love getting into the heart of the communities we serve – sharing stories, celebrating local sport and supporting our “Make A Difference” initiative.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Production Apprentice you will gain experience across a variety of content, which could involve occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends.

You could be working on:

  • Live radio programmes – recording and editing audio
  • Meeting contributors
  • Producing video for our social media content and regional TV output
  • Crafting audio for BBC Sounds

You’ll learn both on‑the‑job and through learning blocks (up to a week at a time) with our learning provider, working towards an industry‑recognised apprenticeship qualification – Level 3 Production Assistant. Learning blocks will combine in‑person and virtual delivery.

YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

We’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world‑class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We look for potential and the ability to apply transferable strengths and experiences.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Thrive on variety in your work
  • Have good communication skills
  • Love being part of a team

This scheme is aimed at non‑graduates. If you have a degree and are interested in similar roles at the BBC, we recommend applying for other positions on our careers site.

  • Be 18 years or older by the start of the apprenticeship
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the last three years prior to the start of the apprenticeship
  • Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme
  • No prior learning is required to apply

For candidates under 19 years at 8 September 2026: You must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) before the start. If you have not, you will need to achieve the equivalent Functional Skills Level 2 by the end of the apprenticeship.

READY TO APPLY?

Don’t leave yourself wondering “what if?” – this could be your chance. Click ‘Apply Now’ to create a candidate profile and answer a few questions – no CV or cover letter needed.

We’ll guide you through the next steps and what to expect. You must live within commutable distance of Cambridge. If you’re interested in another location, check out other adverts – but please only apply to one.

Relocation support is offered on a limited basis and will be considered for this position, subject to meeting qualifying criteria. Further details will be shared during the recruitment process.

This is a fixed‑term apprenticeship – your contract lasts for the duration of the scheme. During your apprenticeship you’ll be supported with career development, employability training and networking opportunities to help you take your next step – whether at the BBC or elsewhere in the industry.
