Job description

We're looking for senior fire engineers to enhance the team structure within the Scotland region

Senior Fire Engineers deliver client projects, provide technical support and help nurture our team. A critical part of the business, you'll oversee and develop the technical capability of the company, contributing to the consulting output and assisting with the overall development of the business.

You will provide fire engineering input as part of a collaborative team on projects locally, nationally and internationally. You will be expected to implement and investigate appropriate legislation and design guidance for use on your projects, while learning to understand the total fire engineering concept: from the client brief through to construction and operation. You will be expected to receive and manage various tasks delegated to you by your Line Manager and take a lead role in project management responsibilities on projects and research initiatives, while learning about business development and building a network of colleagues both internally and externally.

It is anticipated that you will work to raise the commercial profile of the Fire Engineering practice, both internally and externally, by promoting the PartB innovative approach and excellent level of delivery and client care.

You will have a minimum of a degree in a fire engineering discipline with ideally 4 years' fire engineering design experience within a reputable UK-based fire engineering consultancy. A comprehensive understanding and the ability to competently demonstrate the previous application of UK fire design guidance/codes is essential.

You need to be a confident, strong communicator with the ability to make decisions as you will not only be dealing with clients on a daily basis, but other construction professionals, colleagues and peers via all modes of communication, including phone and video conferencing, email and in person.

Main Duties
  • Delivery and management of fire engineering projects
  • Fire risk assessments to a wide range of structures and risk groups
  • Presentation of findings, reports and workshops
  • Working individually and part of a team to win or deliver projects
  • Outward-facing role working directly with clients to fulfil their needs
  • Communicate and promote core values throughout the company
  • Responsible for the promotion of quality throughout the company
  • Promote and ensure technical excellence
  • Provide technical guidance and provide advice for clients as appropriate
  • Provide technical advice to employees and associates of the company
Key Skills & Requirements
  • MSc Fire Engineering degree for 2 years, or BEng/BSc degree for 5 years
  • AIFireE (Associate) accreditation, working towards MIFireE (Member)
  • Accredited with an appropriate 3rd-party review scheme
  • Have IEng or working towards CEng
  • Typically 5-10 years' experience in a consultancy or similar environment
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of UK fire safety legislation and standards
  • Clear understanding of the total fire concept - from client brief through to construction and operation
  • Possess excellent report writing and communication skills - be collaborative, creative and engaging
  • Ability to multi-task - you will be required to work on multiple projects concurrently, working to tight deadlines and juggling multiple demands
