Government Commercial Function – South Yorkshire
The Home Office has a compelling mission: to keep our borders secure and our citizens safe. Across the three main systems – Homeland Security, Public Safety, and Migration and Borders, Corporate and Delivery functions – over 40,000 people carry out critical work to make this happen, through our policies, programmes, and front-line operations. The Commercial function will be at the heart of the department, shaping, leading and directing the management of third party spend in Government, while building project delivery capability across the Home Office.
This role sits within the Senior Leadership Team and is accountable for everything that takes place within the commercial sphere. The role will require strong leadership skills and a focus on continuing to improve capability to support and influence the wider business in a very challenging financial environment. The commercial environment in the Home Office is complex and broad, ranging from significant IT infrastructure investment and digital development of services to major outsource contracts that deliver frontline services across the UK.
Third party spend accounts for a significant proportion of our operating budget, so it is vital that we achieve Value for Money from these contracts and commercial activities. We are looking for a passionate, experienced commercial leader who can support transformation to improve the function and deliver the best commercial function across Government. You do not need experience of working within the Civil Service in order to apply.
Please note that this is a national role which can be based in Croydon, Manchester or Sheffield (regular travel to London and our major commercial hubs will be required). Closing date: 20 October 2024.
