An independent public art organization is seeking a sound-based artist for a residency in Bristol as part of the redevelopment of Albert Road. The role includes creating a permanent artwork through immersive community engagement and co-creation. The artist will manage timelines and budgets while ensuring their work resonates with the local community and enhances the public realm. Applications are accepted until January 14, 2026, via email with a PDF submission detailing the required elements.
Ginkgo Projects, on behalf of Avon Capital Estates, invites a sound-based artist to take part in a residency as part of the redevelopment of 40–46 Albert Road, Bristol.
Located in the St Philip's Marsh area of the city, close to the River Avon and Temple Meads, this redevelopment will provide student accommodation and includes an enhanced public realm, including a publicly accessible riverside greenway.
The selected artist will work with sound to respond to the site and the surrounding area, using research and temporary installations/performance to design and develop a permanent piece of work for the site.
The Artist's Brief sets out the background of the development, followed by expectations of the residency and details of programme and budget.
Phase 1
Around the 26th January to 26th February
Phase 2
Residency / research phase.
Around the 9th March to 10th September 2026
Phase 3
Detailed design, fabrication and installation of permanent work on site. It is expected that the building will be completed in May 2027.
