Job description

Our vision is to give everyone the belief they can make their move. We aim to make moving simpler, by giving everyone the best place to turn to and return to for access to the tools, expertise, trust, and belief to make it happen.

We’re home to the UK’s largest choice of properties and are the go-to destination for millions of people planning their next move, reading the latest industry news, or just browsing what’s on the market.

We're seeking an experienced Lead Product Designer to join our Experience Design (XD) team.

The role
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of five Product Designers focused on our native apps.
  • Own the end-to-end design vision for the Rightmove app experience across iOS and Android.
  • Define and communicate a long-term direction for our apps that aligns with product strategy and influences roadmaps.
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Product, Engineering, and Commercial to shape the experience across Search, Move, and Home.
  • Remain hands‑on where valuable – exploring ideas, validating assumptions, and setting standards for design craft.
  • Ensure consistent, scalable patterns across platforms and support the evolution of the design system.
  • Drive improvements to the native app experience, raising quality, performance, and adoption of reusable patterns.
  • Report to and work closely with the Head of Experience Design.
  • Hybrid – 2 days per week in the Soho, London office and 3 days from home.
What you’ll be doing
  • Partner with the Head of Product, Engineering leadership, User Research, and other Lead Product Designers to make strategic decisions and shape the roadmap.
  • Lead discovery and generative research, using insights and data to understand user needs and drive decision‑making.
  • Maintain a holistic, insight‑driven view of the experience across core journeys.
  • Shape user journeys and app flows, creating concepts that clarify direction and drive alignment.
  • Raise design quality across UX, visual, content, and interaction design.
  • Champion inclusive and accessible design practices, ensuring standards are upheld.
  • Contribute to design system decisions and adoption across teams.
  • Represent XD within Rightmove and stay engaged with best practice and industry trends.
  • Support team hiring and recruitment when needed.
What you’ll bring to the role
  • Experience designing and shipping native app experiences for complex products.
  • Experience managing and developing Product Designers with clarity, coaching, and support.
  • Curiosity and creativity in exploring new technologies and approaches, including the responsible use of AI in design.
  • Strong understanding of iOS and Android patterns, design languages, technical constraints and platform behaviours.
  • Ability to influence design direction through insights, evidence, and rapid conceptual thinking.
  • Leadership skills in recruitment and onboarding, providing clear direction and continuous feedback.
  • Excellent collaboration, effective communication and storytelling skills with leadership, stakeholders and peers, building trust and nurturing strong relationships.
  • A passion for continuous learning and development, with a proactive approach to enhance ways of working and collaboration, contributing to design operations for XD.
  • A strong grasp of design systems, interaction patterns and scalable frameworks.
  • Strategic thinking with commercial awareness and experience balancing business goals with user value.
  • A proactive approach to evolving ways of working and improving cross‑team delivery and collaboration.
