Senior Systems Engineer – Workplace Technology Engineering Collaboration
About the role
We are looking for a senior systems engineer to join the Workplace Technology Engineering Collaboration team, with extensive experience in large‑scale, complex, global organisations. The role requires proficiency in technology strategy, roadmap planning, lifecycle delivery, product selection, and technical project delivery from conception to production. Complementary skills such as commercial awareness, evangelism, delivery focus, secure‑by‑design mindset, and strong operations/customer awareness are essential. In‑depth architectural design experience is required with Microsoft M365, Email/Exchange, Colleague Data, SharePoint, Generative AI, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot agents, Power Platform and related technologies.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the design and adoption of collaboration technologies across multiple infrastructure domains.
- Represent Infrastructure/Systems Engineering across Tesco Technology and with suppliers, demonstrating strategic thinking.
- Shape the direction of significant value areas, focusing on technology strategy and roadmap ownership while balancing cost, security, governance, compliance and user experience.
- Lead and influence architectural strategy and roadmap for collaboration technologies, M365, colleague data, Gen AI and Copilot.
- Drive implementation of solutions that align with the technology strategy and principles.
- Support standards and guidance for new technologies and influence product roadmaps.
- Contribute to commercial arrangements with technology vendors.
- Ensure solutions improve the security baseline of collaboration offerings.
- Work with infrastructure architects, product managers and consultants to align strategy.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, driving a solution from conception to operational handover.
- Maintain technical skills, track new technologies, and design automated solutions.
- Plan, forecast and improve service availability.
- Identify opportunities for business and service improvement.
- Provide guidance on emerging technologies and high‑impact changes.
- Coach, mentor and drive enterprise design collaborations.
- Prepare technical documents and presentations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 6 years in a senior IT technical role; 3–4 years as a Systems Engineer II demonstrating core capabilities.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, administering, configuring and optimising M365 services, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams and OneDrive for Business at scale.
- Expertise in generative AI and Copilot solutions, including agent design.
- Domain Admin / Identity management experience in a large, complex global enterprise.
- Advanced knowledge of Power Platform, Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI and governance of premium connectors.
- Strong security and compliance knowledge across M365 workloads (Conditional Access, MFA, DLP).
- Experience with Azure, VMWare, virtual platforms and cloud migrations.
- PowerShell and other scripting skills for automation and reporting.
- Understanding of licensing models, optimisation and compliance monitoring for Microsoft 365.
- Strategic vision and ability to articulately represent technology roadmaps.
- Commercial awareness and ability to support business cases and procurement processes.
- Strong communication skills in English.
