Job description
Work Based Learning Assessor – Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering

Salary: salary Scale 4: £25,773‑£28,599 per annum (pay award pending). Rising to Scale 5/6: £29,004‑£35,131 on completion of assessor award (pay award pending). Plus £2,500 Market Supplement.

Type: Full time, Permanent Contract; 37 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Assess practical skills and supporting knowledge for NVQ programmes at levels 2, 3 and 4 on company premises.
  • Work with young people, apprentices and mature candidates seeking recognised industry competency qualifications.
  • Plan and organise workplace visits; support and mentor students.
  • Carry out on-site practical assessments and maintain assessment records and progress reviews at customer sites across South Wales.
  • Meet strict timescales and manage a busy workload with high levels of self‑motivation and organisational skills.
Qualifications
  • Background and technical competence in Mechanical Engineering, supported by a recognised apprenticeship.
  • Minimum five years post‑apprenticeship experience and relevant technical qualifications.
  • Assessor qualification (A1, D32 or D33) desirable.
  • Good Welsh language skills encouraged; applicants to state preference for Welsh assessment/interview.

  • Enhanced DBS disclosure for child and adult workforce and registration as a work‑based learning practitioner with the Education Workforce Council required.
