Job Title: Wellbeing and Safeguarding Officer

Pay: Up to £16,356 (part‑time) or £24,675 – £26,821 per annum (pro rata) depending on experience and qualifications.
Hours: 25 per week x 40 weeks (term time only)
Work type: Part‑time
What We’re Looking For
Experience supporting learners on a 1:1 basis and the ability to motivate and engage students.
Ability to work within the Specialist Learning Support department and to welcome a diverse student body.
Prepared to travel to other campuses or surrounding areas as required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide high quality and responsive health, welfare and safeguarding services for all students.
- Support College attendance, retention and achievement strategies by providing proactive welfare and wellbeing support to students individually and in groups.
- Work directly with college departments to ensure learners are fully supported, with any barriers to learning dealt with promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with external agencies to ensure students receive the best possible support.
- Contribute to specialist support and co‑ordinate where required, including attending Looked‑After Children reviews, Personal Education Plans, Strategy meetings and Child in Need plans.
- Assist the Head of Student Support and Wellbeing in the delivery of support services across the college.
- Act as the first response safeguarding contact, operating rapid response to all safeguarding concerns and maintaining effective cover across the college.
- Maintain accurate and timely records using the college systems (ProMonitor, UniTrack etc.).
- Promote and raise awareness of safeguarding, prevent and wellbeing procedures for students.
- Carry out thorough risk assessments and checks on any learners who disclose criminal convictions.
- Create safety plans where appropriate.
- Provide initial support and advice to individuals identified as “at risk”.
- Deliver high quality wellbeing interventions on a one‑to‑one and group basis to encourage learner engagement and future success.
- Measure the impact of support to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous development.
- Identify and support learners in overcoming barriers to learning.
- Maintain accurate records of all interventions and student information in the safeguarding database.
- Manage a flexible caseload of students, prioritising those with complex needs and safeguarding concerns.
- Act as a key member of the College Safeguarding Team.
- Attend regular caseload reviews to ensure student needs are met.
- Assist in activities such as recruitment events, enrolment activities and assessment of support needs.
- Produce statistics to evaluate impact of services and contribute to the College’s quality processes.
- Publicise support services to students and staff.
- Undertake duties as a First Aider and Fire Marshal.

Conditions of Service
- Changed to a 6‑month probationary period, during which training in Equality & Diversity, Prevent, Safeguarding and Health & Safety will be required.
- All newly appointed staff will be required to meet the Standards for safeguarding, participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and comply with Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity policies.
- Education qualifications must include a minimum Level 2 in English and Maths.
- Qualified as a First Aider and Fire Marshal where required.
- Completion of the Discovery and Barring Service check and Medical check.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: £24,675 – £26,821 per annum (pro rata).
Annual leave is paid in lieu of holiday; statutory bank holidays and concessionary days within the working week are paid.
The College operates an Occupational Pension Scheme – the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Other Key Information
- All successful applicants will be based at Bromsgrove, but may be required to work across all campuses.
