Reach Out is a project that provides companionship and practical support to older people who are medically vulnerable and at risk of hospital admission, or have recently been discharged from hospital.

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom

Overview

Can you spare an hour a week to change an older person's life by visiting them? We are looking for friendly, caring volunteers who can visit our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Visit assigned clients for about an hour per week to provide companionship and practical support.
  • Engage in conversations, offer a cup of tea and a chat, or accompany a short walk to support wellbeing and reduce loneliness.
  • Contribute to the community by volunteering in a role that helps older people who are medically vulnerable or recently discharged from hospital.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Friendly, caring volunteers who can commit to regular visits and be reliable.
  • Ability to interact with older adults with compassion and patience.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of safeguarding requirements.
  • Willingness to contribute to the well-being and recovery of clients and to reduce social isolation.

Additional information: Reach Out can assist people by linking them up with a volunteer in their neighbourhood who can offer support in their own home.
