Overview

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform extensive account analysis according to underwriting guidelines, including review of underwriting applications/submissions, risk management protocols, online research, and liaising with other Company departments to establish full understanding of risk exposures and completion of underwriting (pricing) worksheets.
  • Perform referrals as required with Senior Vice President Healthcare and/or Head of Specialty.
  • Ensure timely and accurate issuance of bound policies; craft endorsement wordings for authorization by legal; provide direction to the team to achieve timely processing.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Vice President of Healthcare to contribute to the formation of overall Healthcare strategy and business plans and the execution thereof.
  • Manage policy/endorsement wordings and maintain underwriting files in an orderly manner in accordance with guidelines.
  • Play an active role in business development in the London market, exploring opportunities and marketing within the London Market and EU as required.
  • Liaise with actuarial support to develop premium benchmarks and pricing models, including development of account pricing/recommendations.
  • Authorize quotes, binders and invoices in accordance with company guidelines; ensure receipt and review of outstanding information to maintain consistency with binding terms.
  • Delegate and supervise work to Assistant Underwriters where appropriate; mentor and train assigned team members.
  • Engage in marketing activities: attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other outreach; meet with key brokers to discuss production and service topics relevant to division operations.
  • Attend important industry conferences and seminars as appropriate.
Job Requirements
  • Ideally, graduate-level with professional insurance qualification (ACII) already obtained.
  • Required 15 years of demonstrable experience underwriting Healthcare accounts and clients.
  • Excellent analytical skills with solid knowledge of pricing and actuarial models and methods.
  • Highly articulate with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to liaise daily with clients and brokers, deliver effective presentations, and build strong working relationships.
  • Strong marketing and business development capability with commercial acumen; ability to influence and negotiate with various levels of seniority internally and externally.
  • Highly computer literate with MS Office and advanced proficiency using underwriting systems.
  • Methodical, well-organized, and capable of handling tight reporting deadlines and conflicting priorities.
  • Collaborative team player with a coaching approach to developing junior team members.
