Job description

Metroline Manchester is a recently formed subsidiary of ComfortDelGro, in March 2024 we were awarded contracts to operate four franchises and join the Bee Network in Greater Manchester by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Metroline was formed in 1989, fourth largest bus operator in London running about 17 percent of the city’s scheduled bus services and has been a part of the largest private land transport company Comfort Del Gro since 2000. Here at Metroline we are 6,000 colleagues strong across the UK and help carry over one million of our customers every day, whilst Comfort Del Gro operates in 12 countries with a global fleet of over 40,000 vehicles and more than 22,000 colleagues.

Job Summary

This is the perfect time to join the largest depot Engineering Team at Metroline Manchester as we have recently joined the Bee Network. As an Auto-Electrician/ Vehicle Electrician you will maintain and repair electrical systems on all Metroline vehicles to the manufacturer’s specification and the standards required by VOSA. This includes single and double decker buses, coaches, articulated buses and company vans. Includes CCTV, air/conditioning, ramps, electronic gearboxes, electronic engine management systems and all other electrical components.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8am-4pm

Main Responsibilities
  • To undertake routine preventative maintenance in accordance with Metroline maintenance schedules
  • To undertake diagnostic investigations on reported vehicle defects using laptops, multi-meters and other test equipment and to identify faults
  • Where practical to effect repairs and to test ensuring repairs have been effective. Where appropriate to liaise with line manager on the need for external specialist advice
  • To liaise with Storekeeper on the availability of necessary parts and components
  • To keep abreast of technical developments and new equipment introduced
  • To assist in the technical training of electrician apprentices
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by management that lies within the scope of the jobholder’s responsibilities

The post holder should have knowledge of:

  • Automotive electrical systems, circuit diagrams and components (preferably gained within the PCV/HGV industries)
  • An understanding of routine maintenance schedules
  • An understanding of the standards required by VOSA, TfGM and the Department of Transport
  • Basic mechanical engineering
  • Bus bodywork construction
  • The post holder should have the ability to gain a PCV licence
  • The post holder should ideally have served a recognised apprenticeship and possess a suitable qualification (e.g. C&G, NVQ level 3)
Hours of Work

Permanent Contract – basic 38 hours per week.

Flexibility required for hours/days worked (including weekends) in line with operational requirements.
