Teaching Assistant – SEND

This is a term-time only role, working 32 hours per week, ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting students while maintaining a strong work‑life balance.

About the role

As a Teaching Assistant – SEND, you will work closely with students who require additional support to thrive both academically and socially. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop independence — making a genuine and lasting impact on their school experience.

You will be part of a supportive SEND team, working collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals to ensure every student is understood, supported and challenged appropriately.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEND
  • Support the delivery of personalised learning strategies in line with individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Encourage the development of independence, communication, confidence and social skills
  • Work in partnership with teaching staff, parents and professionals to support positive outcomes
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment where all students can succeed

Salary

Grade 6 – upto £31,022 (full-time equivalent)

Actual salary will be pro‑rated for term-time working, 32 hours per week.

Qualifications and experience
  • A strong commitment to supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Experience working with SEND students in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Patience, empathy, and the resilience to work with students facing various challenges.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education or related fields is an advantage.
