Job summary

A local educational institution in Barrow-in-Furness is seeking a temporary part-time Teaching Assistant to support children with learning and sensory needs. The role requires experience working with children and a relevant Level 2 qualification. You will assist in fostering developmental skills and creating a supportive atmosphere. The position starts as soon as possible and will continue until August 2026, with necessary training provided. Applications are welcome until 12 January 2026.

Teaching Assistant - Temporary Part Time

PCD 5 £25,989 (FTE) per annum pro rata - Term time only

27.5 hours per week

The Local Governing Board of Ormsgill Nursery and Primary School are seeking to appoint a patient and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support children with learning, communication and sensory needs. Experience of supporting children with additional needs would be an advantage. Where appropriate, training will be given in order to support the successful candidates.

The post is to begin as soon as possible and is temporary due to pupil numbers (until August 2026)

Ormsgill Primary School is a member of South Cumbria Multi Academy Trust (SCMAT), with an aim to inspire young people and change lives through excellence in education in South Cumbria.

You will need:

  • experience of working with children
  • a relevant Level 2 or higher qualification
  • the ability to build good relationships
  • a basic understanding of how children develop and learn
  • the ability to work as part of a team
  • good reading, writing and numeracy skills
  • patience and a sense of humour
