Full time TERM Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA) at St. Peter's Elementary, Mount Pearl. Duties commence immediately until June 26, 2026.

Location: St. Peters Primary – 108 Ashford Drive – Mount Pearl – A1N 3L6. Competition end date: December 01, 2025 8:00 AM.

Reporting to the Principal or designate, the TLA will work with the classroom teacher in supporting the teaching and learning in an inclusive environment in the areas of planning, instruction, social emotional learning, assessment, evaluation and collection of student data.

As a Teaching and Learning Assistant, your work will focus on your application of the 7 Determinants of the School Development Model which are: Wellness and Positive Relationships; Optimal Learning Environments; Instructional Practice; Assessment Practices; Collective Efficacy; Evidence-based Decision Making, and Teachers as Learners.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Assist with the planning and organization of learning experiences for students in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing programs and services for students including the delivery of instructional supports.
  • Assist the teacher in assessing, evaluating, reporting and recording student progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to develop supportive educational environments.
  • Participate as a member of school teams in meeting the needs of students.
  • Maintain effective professional working relationships.
  • Commitment to life‑long learning and willingness to enhance skills and knowledge through professional learning.
  • Highly effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to assist students with alternate format materials and the operation of specialized assistive technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Teachers Certificate Level Two (II) from Teacher Certification – Department of Education

  • Approved programs for Certificate Level Two (II) may include: ECE Level 2, Child & Youth Care Worker, Child & Youth Care Worker with Addictions Support, Disability Services & Support, Diploma in Social Services, or 20 university courses (60 credit hours).

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
