Teacher of English & Maths

Salary: £25,600 - £27,500 per annum (£1,700 salary supplement dependent on experience and qualifications)

Location: Stoke-on-Trent

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are seeking a committed and resilient Teacher of English & Maths to support learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education, helping them re‑engage and achieve meaningful qualifications.

Role Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging and accessible English and Maths lessons to learners working towards GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications.
  • Plan, prepare, and adapt schemes of work to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities and learning gaps.
  • Assess student work regularly, providing clear feedback and support to drive progress.
  • Monitor attendance, behaviour, and academic progress, implementing interventions where needed.
  • Support learners' personal development, confidence, and resilience through positive relationships.
  • Work closely with pastoral and support staff to ensure individual learner needs are met.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and tracking in line with organisational requirements.
Essential Requirements
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching or supporting learners in English and/or Maths within an alternative provision, FE, or similar setting.
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to engage learners who may be disengaged from education.
  • Excellent communication skills and a calm, consistent approach.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and supporting learners with additional needs.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
  • A formal teaching qualification is desirable but not essential - full training and development support is available for suitable candidates.
