Job Overview

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated staff with excellent communication skills to join our forward-thinking, dynamic orthopaedic nursing team on Elective Orthopaedics ward 18. You must have a passion for delivering kind and compassionate care. Recruiting motivated, capable and committed staff is the key to maintaining our high standards of quality, safety and patient experience.

Ward 18 is a 15 bedded ring‑fenced Elective Orthopaedic ward. Our award‑winning integrated Trust is in a beautiful location providing genuine opportunities for a great work‑life balance and we are happy to consider flexible working including annualised hours.

  • Applicants must already hold their NMC PIN Number; however applications are welcome from student nurses who would initially work as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker until NMC registration is received.
Main Duties

The post is an integral part of a multi‑disciplinary team which contributes to the effective and economic use of available resources.

  • Carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and teach junior staff, both qualified and unqualified.
  • Take charge of a ward or department when designated.
  • Assess, plan, implement and assist with the evaluation of individual programmes of care for elective patients undergoing joint replacements.
  • Offer advice and support to patients’ families and friends responding to their individual needs.
  • Communicate with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England guidance “Understanding the new NHS”.

  • Maintain a high standard of nursing care for acutely ill patients in accordance with Airedale Hospital Trust’s guidelines and protocols.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria
  • Studied to Diploma level or equivalent.
  • Registered with NMC.

  • Completed 6 months preceptorship period following registration.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., SLIP/ENB 998D32/D33).
  • Orthopaedic course and/or orthopaedic experience.
