Job Description

Senior/Staff Applications Engineering position in Renesas’s Power group for both automotive and non-automotive applications. This team develops the highest performance integrated power management IC solutions. The environment is highly dynamic and very fast paced. All team members are fully empowered to make decisions within the scope of their job function and are expected to be relentlessly focused on achieving project goals no matter what the obstacles may be.

As a Senior/Staff Customer Applications Engineer, you should be able to provide support to both internal and external customers, for a range of existing and future Renesas PMIC products. Primary functions include helping with product definition, characterization, generating customer facing technical collateral, providing customer technical support and failure analysis. Interfacing with customers, FAEs and cross function teams including design/product/test/quality/FuSa and marketing, to provide technical and application support for our products.

A general “Can Do” attitude is required to engage with a wide range of customer issues or Marketing requests that may be outside of one’s comfort zone. The role is predominantly office based due to the use of lab facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Help with product definition and characterization of functionality. Generate customer facing technical collateral such as datasheets, application notes, tech brief, technical promotion slides, training material, evaluation boards, reference designs, circuit models, parameter calculation tools, PCB layout guidelines, etc.
  • Support marketing/Sales/FAEs to facilitate the design‑in of our products as well as providing technical assistance to address customer technical questions such as customer circuit design review, debug, troubleshooting and field return analysis.
  • Perform physical silicon device evaluation at board level based on defined evaluation plans, including understanding the silicon behavior and functionality in detail.
  • Drive cross functional interactions with Design, System, FuSa, Test, Product and Quality Engineering to resolve product issues.
Qualifications
  • Strong power electronics backgrounds with 5~10 years of experience on switching mode power supply, topologies, components, loop control theory, analog and digital circuit, communication protocols
  • Hands‑on experience and ability in lab debugging, probing and characterizing circuit and silicon using a mixture of custom‑made and standard equipment such as power supplies, e‑load, digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to debug any unexpected issue and identify the root cause
  • Knowledge and experience of power supply for digital processors
  • Board level analog and digital circuit design expertise and PCB schematic design
  • Ability to work with limited instructions and confident to approach others to discuss more challenging issues
  • Self‑motivated, conscientious and work well in a team environment. Goals‑oriented and able to deliver on‑time results under customer driven schedules. Ability to work with minimal instructions and available to support team members and share own expertise
  • Ability to work on and support multiple customer issues in parallel, multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced environment. Drive tasks under pressure to meet urgent internal and external deliverables
  • Knowledge of Python for automation of lab tests, Simplis/Spice modeling
  • Automotive application experience and knowledge are preferred, such as ISO26262, ISO16750, LV124, EMC, etc.
  • Minimum bachelor’s in electrical engineering or computer science
