Specialist Psychiatrist in Moorland View Acute Psychiatric ward NorthDevon at Devon PartnershipNHS Trust. Devon Partnership NHS Trust stands at the forefront of mental healthand learning disability, forging partnerships with health and social careproviders to support recovery.

The Role: Weinvite you to join us as a Specialist Psychiatrist on Moorland View, a new role working alongside aconsultant nurse approved clinician (MPAC) and a cohesive MDT to provide seniormedical input to this purpose built 16 bedded ward situated in Barnstaple inNorth Devon.

Main duties of the job

The post holderwill be providing the senior medical leadership within an Acute psychiatricward in North Devon

The post holderwill be available 9-5 Monday to Friday. The post holder will be based in NorthDevon District Hospital in Barnstaple

The post holder willwork within MDT and offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients onMoorland View psychiatric ward, as well as other expert clinical services insupport of patients and their families/carers as judged necessary.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent
  • GMC registration.
  • Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Experience
  • Minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.

  • Experience at senior level working in the field of Psychiatry
  • Experience of Home Treatment or equivalent
  • Delivering supervision of non-medical prescribers
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.
  • Ability to manage crises and act independently.
  • Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.
  • Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Good knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation including the MCA.
  • Good knowledge of clinical risk management.
  • Good knowledge of evidence based strategies for management of psychiatric disorder
  • Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations.
  • Understanding of NHS organisational arrangements including social care
