A leading healthcare solutions provider is seeking an experienced Software QA Test Engineer to lead the automated testing strategy for their software development lifecycle. This role involves designing test plans, executing test cases, and collaborating with developers and stakeholders to ensure high-quality software delivery. The position is primarily remote but requires some travel to the Abingdon office. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on automation, proficiency with tools like Selenium and Git, and exceptional communication skills.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Software QA Test Engineer to lead the implementation of a robust automated testing strategy across our software development lifecycle, and to evaluate and introduce third party new software and changes. The successful candidate will work closely with developers, system owners, business analysts, third‑party companies, and end users to design, develop, and execute test plans, test cases, and automated test scripts. They will also manage User Acceptance Testing (UAT), conduct smoke tests, and ensure the continuous delivery of high-quality software. The role is remote, although some travel to our Head Office based in Abingdon & other sites will be required in accordance with operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Testing Strategy & Planning
    • Design and implement a comprehensive testing strategy including unit, integration, system, regression, smoke, and UAT.
    • Define test objectives, scope, and deliverables aligned with project and product goals.
    • Champion a shift-left testing culture to embed quality early in the development lifecycle.
  • Test Automation
    • Evaluate and select appropriate automation tools and frameworks.
    • Design and maintain automated test scripts for web, API, and database layers.
  • Collaboration & Integration
    • Work collaboratively with software developers, business analysts & owners to define acceptance criteria and testable requirements.
    • Liaise with business users to gather UAT scenarios and coordinate UAT execution.
    • Act as the quality gatekeeper for all releases into production environments.
  • Test Execution & Reporting
    • Execute automated and manual test cases, log defects, and track issues to resolution.
    • Conduct smoke and sanity tests post-deployment to ensure software stability.
    • Produce clear test documentation and reporting (coverage reports, defect metrics, etc.)
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Recommend process improvements and participate in retrospectives.
    • Mentor junior or business testers and support cross-functional teams in quality best practices.
Skills and Experience:
  • Essential:
    • Proven experience in software testing with a strong focus on automation.
    • Hands‑on expertise with tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Postman (or similar).
    • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
    • Strong knowledge of SDLC and experience in testing best practices, including API, database, and web app testing.
    • Ability to design and execute UAT and smoke tests at a strategic level.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Desirable:
    • Experience with scripting languages (JavaScript, Python, PowerShell).
    • Exposure to BDD/TDD frameworks (e.g., Cucumber, SpecFlow).
    • Knowledge of performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner).
    • Experience working in healthcare or regulated industries.
Qualifications:
  • Essential:
    • None explicitly required (experience and skills are the priority).
  • Desirable:
    • ISTQB Certification or equivalent is advantageous.
    • Experience in healthcare or regulated industries is advantageous.
    • Knowledge of performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner).
    • Familiarity with BDD/TDD frameworks (e.g., Cucumber, SpecFlow).
