Job description
Overview

Founded in 2017, Obsidian Security was created to close a critical gap: securing the SaaS applications where modern business happens—platforms like Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and hundreds more.

Backed by top investors including Greylock, Norwest Venture Partners, and IVP, we’ve built a complete SaaS security platform to reduce risk, detect and respond to threats, and prevent breaches at the source. Our team includes leaders who helped define the categories of endpoint and identity security at CrowdStrike, Okta, Cylance, and Carbon Black. Today, Obsidian is trusted by global enterprises and protects more than 200 organizations across regions worldwide. We’re transforming how SaaS is secured—in the era of agentic AI. Join us as we define the future of SaaS security!

We are looking for a Software Engineer - Generalist to join our growing engineering team. As a generalist, you’ll be working across the entire stack to develop, deploy, and optimize cutting-edge security solutions. You will collaborate closely with product, security, and engineering teams to design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable software. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to make a direct impact in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Full-Stack Development: Design, build, and maintain both front-end and back-end components for our SaaS security platform, with particular emphasis on data processing and analytics systems
  • Data Engineering: Build and optimize data pipelines, ETL processes, and real-time data streaming systems to support security analytics and intelligence
  • Data Architecture: Design and implement scalable data storage solutions, including databases, data warehouses, and distributed data systems
  • Security Focus: Work on security-related features, integrating cutting-edge security protocols, and building tools that help secure our customers’ data and infrastructure
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver high-quality features and enhance the platform's security
  • System Design: Participate in high-level system design and architecture discussions for new features and products
  • Problem Solving: Identify technical issues and implement solutions to improve the performance, scalability, and security of the platform
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in code quality, testing, and deployment processes
  • Innovation: Stay updated on security trends, technologies, and best practices, and contribute ideas to the development of new security features
Key Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in software development
  • Experience with data pipeline development and optimization (ETL/ELT processes)
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, databases (PostgreSQL, Databricks, Clickhouse, ElasticSearch), and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with modern web frameworks and front-end technologies (React, Vue, Angular, etc.)
  • Experience with data processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Dagster or similar)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Experience with testing frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to problem-solving
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Bonus Points
  • Experience working with SaaS platforms and APIs
  • Familiarity with cloud security concepts and technologies
  • Familiarity with machine learning pipelines and MLOps practices
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and DevOps practices
