Location: Office (Dublin or Belfast) and remote working

Seachtain, Mediahuis’s Irish language publication with the Irish Independent, is seeking a dynamic, creative Social Media Champion & Digital Journalist to lead the development of engaging digital content and drive our online presence across social platforms.

The Seachtain Social Media Champion & Digital Journalist will drive the development of the standalone digital edition, which will provide the Irish language community with news, sport and entertainment.

The aim will be to make the offering as attractive as possible and to spread the brand as widely as possible, building its digital presence.

The successful candidate will be able tap into the vast expertise across departments in Mediahuis Ireland, including marketing and promotions, editorial, designers and videographers to develop the project and grow our audience.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated and show initiative to make our digital offering as attractive and dynamic as possible. You will have the ability to work on your own and as part of a team.

The Social Media Champion & Digital journalist will promote Seachtain across all digital platforms, linking with our print edition and successful Seachtain podcasts.

To be successful in this role, you will have good news judgement and the ability to write, edit and post breaking news in a fast-paced environment.

You will also be able to contribute to our print edition and podcasts.

Experience and qualifications:

• Excellent working knowledge of social media
• Experience working as a journalist and in digital media is an advantage
• The ability to show initiative, self-motivated and capable of operating without supervision
• The ability and confidence to use new platforms including TikTok, X and Instagram and explore new areas to grow the Seachtain audience
• Writing and copy-editing skills
• Be comfortable working on tight deadlines in a 24/7 news cycle where speed and accuracy are crucial
• Excellent news judgement and knowledge of current affairs
• Excellent written and spoken Irish
