Job summary

A major UK food group based in Kirkconnel is seeking a Technical Leader to oversee food safety and compliance for their pork processing operations. The successful candidate will focus on team development, drive continuous improvement, and ensure all regulations are met. We are currently entering a transformational phase. With a brand-new 50,000 sq ft state-of-the-art expansion, cutting-edge investment, and ambitious growth plans, we’re looking for a forward thinking Technical Leader who’s ready to shape the next era of our Scottish pork processing and cooked meats operation.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Technical Director, you’ll be the guardian of food safety, quality, and compliance across a diverse product portfolio supplying some of the UK’s biggest supermarkets.

You will:

  • Ensure BRC v9, legislation, and customer codes are met and exceeded
  • Lead, coach, and motivate the technical team
  • Maintain and develop the Quality Management System
  • Identify trends, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement
  • Oversee internal/external audits with confidence and expertise
  • Influence cross-functional decision making during an exciting period of investment and growth
What You’ll Bring

You’re a technically strong, solutions driven leader with a passion for high standards and operational excellence.

You will have:
  • Strong knowledge of BRC v9, retailer COPs, and technical systems
  • Experience within a technical management/quality leadership role in food manufacturing
  • A relevant degree or HND in a scientific or technical discipline
  • Level 3 HACCP (Level 4 preferred) and Level 4 Hygiene
  • Internal auditor experience (BRC/ISO third-party auditor certification preferred)
  • High Care/High Risk manufacturing experience
  • Excellent people-management skills and the ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Organised, detail-driven, self-motivated approach
  • Location: Kirkconnel DG4 6RB (must be able to commute/relocate)
  • Driving licence: Preferred
  • Work authorisation: Must have the right to work in the UK
