Job description
Senior Risk & Insurance Officer - Ready for a Strategic Career Step?

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Risk & Insurance Officer to join our Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team in Prescot, Liverpool.

WHAT IS ON OFFER

This is a key development role for an ambitious individual—likely an experienced Risk Analyst, GRC Officer, or Internal Auditor—ready to step up to a senior level in an in‑house corporate environment and grow into a future leader. Reporting directly to the Group Insurance Manager, you will be given the support and training to take ownership of our UK insurance portfolio over time.

You will be joining the supportive Alfred H Knight family within the GRC department—a team focused on securing the Group’s future through strategic risk transfer. This isn't just an administrative role; it is a structured opportunity to build a career in corporate risk management, with clear pathways for professional development and progression. We are looking for someone with the right attitude and core competencies to learn how to act as the crucial liaison between our UK business operations and GRC, applying a proactive, quality‑focused mindset to our risk defenses.

This is a high‑impact role where your capability and commitment matter. You will be instrumental in ensuring our insurance solutions provide the most effective and efficient final layer of financial defence for the Group.

ABOUT US

Alfred H Knight is a totally independent, family‑owned business spanning five generations. A global network of strategically placed offices and laboratories enable global trade by providing independent inspection, analysis and consultancy services to the metals and minerals, solid fuels and agriculture industries.

We have honed and carefully crafted our reputation. Delivering knowledge and professionalism in all aspects of weighing, sampling and analysis, we thrive by continuing to re‑invest in our facilities, technology and people.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:

  • Strong Stakeholder Management: The ability to build trust and influence cross‑functional teams (Operations, HSEQ, Finance) to secure accurate data and insights.
  • Proactive & Independent Working: A proven ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and proactively drive tasks forward with a «can‑do» attitude.
  • Confident Communicator: Confidence to lead meetings, present complex ideas clearly (both verbal and written), and engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Risk Mindset: An innate curiosity and appreciation for risk identification, control, and mitigation strategies. An interest in understanding how insurance and risk management protect a business.
  • Quality Focused: Exceptional attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with a commitment to high‑quality output.
  • Analytical Thinking: Proficiency in interpreting and communicating data (e.g. claims data), with the ability to challenge opinions with logical arguments and practical understanding.
Desired Background & Experience (Training Provided)

While we will provide specific training for the in‑house corporate insurance function, the successful candidate will likely have one or more of the following:

  • Current GRC/Risk Team Role: Experience as an Officer, Analyst, or similar function within a Corporate Risk Management, Compliance, or Internal Audit team, showing a solid understanding of business governance and controls.
  • Formal Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject (insurance, economics, business, or law) is desirable.
  • Relevant Qualifications: Working towards or holding a relevant Finance or Risk qualification (e.g. IRMCert, Cert CII, DipCII) is a plus.
BENEFITS

We are offering an excellent opportunity with a salary and benefits package to match, including pension, life assurance and an employee assistance programme.

If you are invited to interview, please let us know if there are any reasonable adjustments we can make to the recruitment process that will enable you to perform to the best of your ability.
