Senior Quantity Surveyor

We’re recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the growing commercial team at TMS Maritime, as we continue to expand and deliver complex, high-value marine and civil engineering projects. This role offers a competitive salary up to £70,000 and bonus scheme plus car allowance based at our Dawlish, Devon head office.

Key responsibilities include
  • Leading cost planning, forecasting, and value reporting across assigned projects
  • Preparing tenders, bills of quantities, variations and claims; negotiating with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Monitoring cost/value reconciliations (CVRs), cash flow and margin performance
  • Overseeing procurement and subcontractor management, ensuring commercial compliance and risk control
  • Providing commercial guidance to project teams and mentoring junior quantity surveyors
  • Ensuring commercial governance, timely valuations, and accurate final accounts

Experience within marine infrastructure, flood defence, coastal engineering, or civil construction environments will be particularly advantageous.

Essential Criteria
  • Degree qualified in either: Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or a related field
  • MRICS or CICES (or working towards) accredited would be advantageous
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in a related environment (civil engineering or marine infrastructure preferred)
  • Proven track record in cost management, CVRs, forecasting, and contract negotiation
  • Strong working knowledge of UK construction contracts (NEC, JCT or equivalent)
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to sites nationwide
Desirable
  • Experience in marine, coastal, or flood defence infrastructure
  • Familiarity with marine plant hire, piling, or commercial diving projects
  • Experience with digital commercial systems and reporting tools

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Commercial Director and take full commercial responsibility for a portfolio of projects across the marine and civil sectors.

  • Location: Dawlish, Devon (Head Office)
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Working pattern: Office and Site Based when required. This could require overnight stays.
