Senior Locally Employed Doctor - Getting it Right First Time
Job overview

This exciting post provides a 12-month intensive out of programme (OOP) experience for ST3+ level doctors to develop and practice service improvement and clinical leadership in the field of Sustainability in Healthcare, through the delivery of and support to local and national GIRFT improvement initiatives aimed at reducing variation, and an opportunity to publish and present related research as part of the programme.

Postholders will have regular access to senior clinicians, including Professor Tim Briggs, the National Director of Clinical Improvement and will form part of a cohort of GIRFT Fellows. There will be collaboration with other national fellowship programmes, e.g. the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellows Scheme and the Chief Sustainability Officer’s Clinical Fellows Scheme.

Main duties of the job

Support

All GIRFT Fellows will receive:

  • Clinical and educational supervision via their host trust
  • Comprehensive induction, meeting the GIRFT team in London, understanding the GIRFT methodology and data
  • Support for research and quality improvement projects and publication of key findings as academic papers and conference abstracts
  • Access to national datasets curated by NHS England (e.g. Hospital Episodes Statistics (HES) dataset, Emergency Care Dataset (ECDS), Theatres Productivity Dataset (TPDS))
  • Allocation of a mentor
  • Access to a facilitated Action Learning Set
  • Regular online and face-to-face GIRFT education days throughout the 12 month period.
