Desirable
  • Understanding of the political and strategic context of local government.
  • Experience of delivering training or mentoring to colleagues.
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative legal solutions.
Essential
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), entitled to practice in England and Wales.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Additional relevant qualifications or accreditations in specialist areas of law.
  • Substantial post‑qualification experience in a relevant area of law, ideally within local government or the public sector.
  • Experience of advising on complex legal matters and managing a varied caseload.
  • In‑depth knowledge of local government law and practice relevant to the post (e.g., public law, regulatory, contracts, property, or social care law).
  • Understanding of statutory frameworks, governance, and decision‑making in a local authority context.
  • Awareness of current issues and developments in the relevant area of law.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, and data protection requirements.
