Senior Engineer – South Wales – Balfour Beatty plc

Create a landmark infrastructure in Wales. Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Senior Engineer to join our team in Abergavenny, supporting the construction of a new bridge spanning the River Usk. This is a key role on a high‑profile structures project, offering the opportunity to apply your technical expertise to a complex, multi‑disciplinary scheme that will have a lasting impact on the local community and transport network.

Responsibilities

• Leading site engineering activities and supporting the delivery team across multiple civil schemes.
• Setting out, surveying and ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
• Managing and mentoring junior engineers and site team members.
• Coordinating design information, technical queries and subcontractor interfaces.
• Ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
• Supporting the Site Manager and Project Manager with planning, reporting and problem‑solving.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in civil engineering delivery (e.g., highways, structures, drainage, earthworks, utilities).
• Strong technical capability and confidence in setting out and QA processes.
• Experience leading small teams or mentoring junior staff.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• A proactive approach to safety and quality.
• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering (or relevant discipline).
• CSCS, SMSTS/SSSTS desirable.
