Role Purpose
The Senior Account Handler – Specialist Property Insurance will manage a portfolio of high-value and complex property clients (a number with £100,000+ premiums), including Property Managers, Property Developers and Property Owners. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality technical support, leading complex renewals and placements, and working closely with Account Executives and Board Director(s) to ensure first-class client outcomes, retention and sustainable growth within the specialist property team.
Client Relationship & Service
- Act as lead handler for a portfolio of large and complex property accounts, building trusted long-term relationships.
- Provide expert advice across a broad range of property and property developer risks, ensuring tailored insurance solutions.
- Deliver a proactive, high-service experience aligned with Hazelton Mountford’s values.
Technical Account & Policy Management
- Manage the full lifecycle of client accounts including renewals, mid-term adjustments, insurer negotiations and claims liaison.
- Handle and place complex property and development-related covers, including:
- Commercial & Residential Property portfolios (single and multi-site)
- Block Management Portfolios
- Contractors All Risks (CAR)
- Latent Defects / Structural Warranty
- Development-specific extensions and bespoke policy wordings
- Prepare detailed risk presentations, coverage summaries and renewal reports for clients and insurers.
- Review contracts and development documentation to ensure insurance compliance.
Business Development & Account Growth
- Support Account Executives and Directors with new business presentations and tenders for large property and developer clients.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and enhancing coverage as portfolios and developments evolve.
- Assist in retaining and growing high-value accounts through technical excellence and strong service delivery.
- Maintain strong working relationships with insurers, underwriters and specialist MGA markets.
- Negotiate competitive terms, premiums and wordings for complex property and development risks.
- Keep abreast of market trends, capacity changes and emerging risks within the property and construction sectors.
- Work closely with Account Executives, Directors and the wider property team to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Act as a technical reference point within the team and support the development of junior handlers.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Specialist Property offering.
- Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all documentation, placements and advice meet FCA, regulatory and internal compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate records on internal systems and support audit processes.
Candidate Profile
- Significant experience (typically 5–7+ years) in commercial property insurance within a UK broker environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of property owner, managing agents and property development insurance, including CAR and latent defects.
- Proven experience managing large, complex accounts with £100,000+ premiums.
- Confident communicator with strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior executives and directors.
- ACII qualified or working towards Chartered status a benefit.
- Experience working with developers, construction professionals and managing agents.
- Established relationships with property and construction insurance markets.
