Buckinghamshire Mind is looking for a Safe Haven Crisis Support Worker to join the team at Safe Haven: our out-of-hours support service for those experiencing a mental health crisis.

The Safe Haven Crisis Support Worker is responsible for supporting individuals experiencing an emotional or mental health crisis, offering support in a calm, safe and empathic environment.

  • Contract Type: Permanent role
  • Location: High Wycombe
  • Salary: £25,000 FTE plus enhanced hours payment of 30% on top of normal hourly rate for hours worked between 11pm-12am. This calculates as an actual payment of £17,027.03 including the enhanced hours based on the hours below.
  • Hours: 24 hours – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 2 hours of flexi/administration time preferably on a Tuesday Morning.
About Us

Buckinghamshire Mind is an independent charity providing trusted mental health services to our communities. We are affiliated with national Mind and are part of a network of over 100 Local Minds. We promote wellbeing and recovery; we prevent mental ill health; we offer talking therapies and we provide support in times of crisis.

Key Responsibilities
  • To provide emotional support to individuals referred to the Safe Haven.
  • Welcome new referrals to Safe Haven; carry out initial assessments and maintain accurate case records within the required data collection and reporting system.
  • To work collaboratively with statutory mental health services – including out of hours crisis teams, to provide support and interventions to the individual where this becomes appropriate.
  • To provide individual based advice, guidance and emotional support to provide onward links. These include referrals within our Safe Haven+ service which supports, housing needs, including those at who are or at risk of homelessness, benefits support, and substance misuse.
  • Ensure the wellbeing and safety of service users, reporting any concerns to your line manager.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience of providing a support service to adults with mental health difficulties/in emotional distress and maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • A positive attitude towards people with mental health problems, in particular people’s ability to develop and change.
  • Experience and/or training in how to deescalate challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Effective team worker with ability to take initiative and work on an individual basis.
