Job Summary

To support patients during ultrasound examinations, assist imaging assistants with patient preparation and examinations, and provide mentorship to junior RDAs. Proactively support radiology staff with a patient‑first focus, book patients into ultrasound diaries, and train junior RDAs. This rotation includes obstetric and non‑obstetric ultrasound.

Job Responsibilities
  • Check stock levels weekly, document and report low stocks to senior management.
  • Communicate with patients of diverse backgrounds before examinations.
  • Manage multiple, conflicting demands while maintaining focus.
  • Comply with legislative obligations (Data Protection, Health and Safety, COSHH, radiation rules, Trust policies).
  • Carry out duties requested by senior management.
  • Participate in annual performance appraisals and set action objectives.
  • Present a professional front and act as an ambassador for the department.
  • Coordinate patient arrivals and departures with department staff.
  • Assist with manual handling of patients per Trust policies.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Prepare ultrasound rooms and equipment, ensuring cleanliness between patients.
  • Act as chaperone for patients when required.
  • Prepare trolleys aseptically for ultrasound procedures.
  • Support Sonographers and Radiologists during scanning.
  • Liaise with ward staff and porters to facilitate workflow.
  • Collect and prepare patients for examination.
  • Scan papers into Radiology IT systems.
  • Manage inpatient orders on CRIS and liaise with relevant teams.
  • Be aware of communicable disease risks and proper barrier nursing procedures.
  • Rotate between all PAHT sites.
  • Organise inpatient scans based on skill mix and availability.
  • Provide personal care assistance to patients.
  • Assist with ultrasound‑guided injection lists.
  • Liaise with patient transport.
  • Support staff in emergency situations.
  • Offer empathetic support to patients following unexpected findings, especially in obstetrics.

  • Essential
  • NVQ Level 3 in acute care or equivalent experience.
