Quality Inspector (Weekend Shift – Fabrication / Welding) Based in Tranent

We’re looking for a Quality Inspector to join our weekend team, helping to maintain the highest standards across our steel fabrication work. You’ll inspect, measure, and document the quality of components, making sure everything we produce meets the right specifications before it leaves the workshop.

You’ll begin on the day shift for training and support, then transition to the weekend shift (Friday to Sunday) once you’re confident in the role.

What You’ll Do
  • Carry out detailed inspections on fabricated steelwork to ensure compliance with drawings and standards
  • Use measuring tools such as calipers, tapes, and gauges to check dimensions and tolerances
  • Identify and record any quality issues, working with Supervisors to resolve them quickly
  • Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality documentation
  • Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) on welded components
  • Perform final checks on both plain and welded parts before release
  • Support continuous improvement across the shop floor
Who You’ll Work With

You’ll report to the Inspection Supervisor and work closely with Supervisors, RWCs, and the wider Manufacturing and Quality teams to keep production running smoothly.

Safety and Quality
  • Always work safely and follow all training and site procedures
  • Report any accidents, near misses, or quality defects promptly
  • Maintain traceability and accurate records throughout the fabrication process
  • Use PPE correctly and take good care of issued equipment
What We’re Looking For
  • Able to read and interpret engineering or fabrication drawings
  • Confident using measuring tools such as calipers, rules, squares, and gauges
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification in fabrication or an engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of BS EN 1090 and NSSS standards
  • CSWIP or PCN NDT qualification (or working towards one)
