Are you an experienced Project Manager looking for a new challenge?
We have an exciting opportunity to join a transformational project team during the discovery and planning stage of the new Epos Replacement Programme at Boots. Reporting to the business lead, you will sit within our Central Operations function and will work closely with IT, Finance, Internal and external partners. You will define the scope and implementation plan for this new system, which is a truly cross‑functional piece of work!
About the role
You will support the end‑to‑end discovery, planning and execution of the Epos replacement programme. Collaborating with IT, internal business stakeholders and 3rd Party Project Managers, you will be responsible for the successful implementation of the new Epos solutions on time, as per brief and within budget.
Key responsibilities
- Accountable for the successful delivery of the Epos project and implementation, ensuring that appropriate governance and controls are in place.
- Responsibility for initiative delivery involving multiple teams, ensuring effective collaboration and development from start to finish.
- Provide clear and concise updates to senior project stakeholders as required for regular status reporting and ad‑hoc decision‑making support.
- Apply best practices in project management and process change for quality project delivery & lead continuous improvement of processes.
- Coordinate with other project/programme managers to ensure alignment with other transformation projects and ensure seamless collaboration.
- Able to chair workshops with multiple senior, technical, product and business stakeholders and own the communication of the outputs (actions and key points) to relevant stakeholders.

What you’ll need to have
Programme Leadership
- Proven experience leading a large‑scale Epos replacement project in retail
- Can align business objectives (customer experience, operational efficiency, compliance) with technology delivery milestones.
- Can align multiple third parties (POS vendor, systems integrator, payments provider, networking vendor, internal IT).
- Experience supporting the definition and management of business cases, Return on investment, total cost of ownership, and benefits realisation.
- Can connect system changes to outcomes — e.g. improved checkout speed, reduced maintenance costs, enhanced omnichannel capability
Technical Knowledge
- Experience with EPOS platforms, retail transaction flows, and integration with:
- Inventory and pricing systems
- CRM and loyalty systems
- Payment gateways
- Back‑office and reporting systems
- Familiarity with modern cloud‑based POS solutions and APIs (e.g. Oracle Retail, NCR, or similar).
Infrastructure, Integration & Decommissioning
- Awareness of store infrastructure constraints (networking, peripherals, latency, and resilience).
- Experience coordinating with integration platforms (middleware), APIs, and system interface layers.
- Experience migrating from mainframe or monolithic legacy systems (40+ years old) to modern architectures.
- Understanding of data migration, interface mapping, cutover strategies, and data integrity validation.
- Knowledge of decommissioning best practices, including data archival, compliance, and risk mitigation.
Business & Retail Operations Understanding
Understanding of store operations, including:
- Point of sale workflows
- Returns, promotions, and discount logic
- Stock management and replenishment
- Regulatory considerations (e.g., health and beauty product labelling, returns, age restrictions
- Experience shaping store experience improvements through technology — reducing transaction friction, improving staff enablement, and integrating loyalty/personalisation systems.
- Translate between business and technical teams.
- Experienced with legacy constraints and complex partner landscapes.
