BBC Scotland Operations is looking for a motivated individual to join our Gaelic teams in Stornoway and train as a Technical Operator specialising in radio.

BBC Scotland Operations provides expert technical support and production skills for a wide range of radio programmes and live broadcasts across Scotland. From daily news and current affairs to music, cultural programming, and major live events, our teams help bring BBC Scotland’s distinctive radio content to audiences across the country and beyond.

Based in BBC Stornoway, this is a unique opportunity to develop your skills through specialised training and hands‑on experience. You’ll play a key role in supporting BBC Radio nan Gàidheal output from the Western Isles, contributing to this vital Gaelic radio service.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT / DO PHRÌOMH DHLEASTANAN AGUS AM BUANNACHD

As a Production apprentice, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute – you could be:

  • Sound: Learn how to capture, mix, and deliver clear, high-quality audio for live and pre‑recorded radio programmes.
  • Studio Operations: Operate broadcast equipment, manage studio set‑ups, and ensure smooth technical delivery during live output.
  • Outside Broadcasts: Support live radio coverage from locations across the Western Isles and mainland Scotland, helping bring events to air.

You’ll be learning both on and off the job. This means that as well as learning on your placement at the BBC, you’ll also attend regular meetings (either in‑person or virtual) with our learning provider, working towards an industry‑recognised, SCQF 7 in Creative Media.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA / SLATAN‑TOMAIS

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:

  • Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026.
  • Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme, whether with the BBC or another organisation.
  • No prior learning is required to apply.

For candidates under the age of 19 years at 8th September 2026: To complete the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Core Skills (Scotland) at SCQF Level 5 or 6 in: Communication and Numeracy. Core skills will be embedded into learning.
