Role

CFP Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Power Trader to join our Trading team. This role offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of European energy markets, supporting trade execution and contributing to the development of trading strategies. You will collaborate closely with analysts, risk managers, and the operational team to align strategies and optimise performance across energy markets.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret curve power markets across key European markets to identify and act on trading opportunities.
• Analyse price trends, market data and regulatory developments to provide input on trading strategies.
• Execute trades across energy markets, monitor trade performance, and adjust positions in response to market dynamics.
• Quote and manage client flow timely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with senior traders, analysts, risk managers, and operations teams to optimise portfolio performance and improve trading workflows.
• Take ownership of VAR allocation, managing risks and contributing to achieving annual P&L targets.

Ideal candidate

• A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience trading power curve or supporting trading activities in the European power markets, with a proven track record of market engagement and commercial impact.
• Experience in quoting client flow or market making.
• Previous exposure to physical power market dynamics and PPAs.
• Proficient in handling and analysing large datasets; working knowledge of Python, SQL, and advanced Excel preferred.
• Proficient in developing, implementing and managing mathematical models to support data‑driven decision-making.
• Solid understanding of trading platforms, market structures, and trade lifecycle processes.
• Strong numerical ability to analyse price trends, forecast market conditions, and assess trading strategies.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage operational aspects of trading accurately and efficiently.
• Ability to identify issues, assess risks, and propose solutions in a structured manner.
