I load military vessels around the globe using specialist heavy lifting equipment.

It's our job to load and unload essential supplies from our ships, safely, quickly, and efficiently.

We use specialist machinery, such as cranes, and drive different types of vehicles to carry out our operations. Working alongside the Royal Marines and Airborne Forces offers opportunities to travel, work in ports worldwide, and support operations and disaster relief tasks. We also offer opportunities to complete an apprenticeship and gain widely-recognised trade qualifications.

The Royal Logistic Corps are the Army’s professional logisticians, keeping the Field Army marching, helicopters flying, vehicles moving, and tanks and guns firing. We enable deployment and supply everything needed, wherever we operate worldwide.

As part of a Port Task Group, you will load and unload vessels to meet port deadlines and operational commitments.

You will be primarily based at the home of Army Maritime in Marchwood, Southampton, but could be deployed worldwide—wherever the British Army has a presence.

Gain your Category C+E Driving Licence and learn to use equipment such as an Industrial Forklift.

Earn MHE qualifications and a Level 2 Port Operative Apprenticeship.

From 16 years & 6 months to 35 years & 6 months.

  2. Port Operator Class 3 Course: Learn safety in hazardous port environments, gain MHE Licences, and transfer cargo using cranes and other equipment. Earn category B and C+E licenses at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield.
  3. Promotion and Further Qualifications: After earning additional MHE Specialist Qualifications, undertake the Port Operator Class 2 and later the Class 1 courses, including learning to be a Crane Supervisor.
