A fire services policy organization is seeking a candidate for a permanent position focused on developing policy advice across various topics such as operational preparedness and fire reform. The ideal applicant will have strong writing and analytical skills, experience in managing multiple tasks, and familiarity with a fast-paced political environment. TheStrategy and Policy Teamispart of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)Corporate ServicesDirectorate.The successful candidatewill play a key role within the team, which incorporates policyand strategy support across Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) functions.The team works on a remote basiswith the occasionalrequirement toattend meetings or events in London orother locations around the UK on a semi-regular basis.
TheStrategy and Policy Teamwork closely with subject matter experts, insight analysts, and communications colleaguesacrossNFCCto support and produce policy advice, positions,and content. Through thetimelyand clear production of evidence-based advice, our primaryobjectiveis to support national policy development, with the aim of improving the safety of thecommunities we serve.
The successful candidate will report to theSeniorPolicy Manager andbe responsible forleadingthe development of policy advice, positions, and responses to Governmentacross a range of topics. These could include aspects ofoperationalpreparedness andresponse,fire reform,climate change,emerging technologies,theNFCC strategy,and culturalimprovement.
The post holder will be part of a team producing policy products for UK FRSs across all areas ofFRSactivities.Responsibilities will include engagement with UKFRSsto ensure that policies and national positions under development enjoy the support ofour membersand appropriately reflecttheirviews.
In addition to working withother members of theStrategy and Policy Team, you will also work with technical,communications, data, and governance colleaguesfrom otherNFCCteams.
The post holder may also be involved with the preparation of research reports, impact assessments, cost benefit analysis of policy options, equality impact assessments, and presentation of data where relevant.
We are looking for someone with strong writing and analysis skills, with the ability to synthesiselarge amountsof technical information and translate that into products that are easy for a non-technical audience to grasp. You will bring a positive approach to being part of ateam;seeing challenges as a glass half full.
You will have experience in time management and managing multiple tasks at a time.
You will need experience of working in a fast-paced and political environment,and of handling high profile issues.
