Occupational Therapist – Eating Disorders

Permanent | Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Location: Essex

Overview

A leading independent mental health provider is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join a specialist inpatient service supporting individuals with eating disorders. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care in a therapeutic hospital environment.

The Service

The service provides specialist inpatient treatment for people experiencing complex mental health difficulties, including eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma and personality disorders. Care is delivered through a collaborative, person-centred approach involving psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, dietitians and therapists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions for individuals with eating disorders.
  • Support patients to restore daily functioning, independence and engagement in meaningful activities such as self-care, education, work and leisure.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement holistic, person-centred care plans addressing both physical and psychological recovery.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapeutic sessions focused on meal support, sensory regulation, emotional wellbeing and body image rehabilitation.
  • Support transitions between inpatient, day services and community settings, promoting sustainable recovery routines and relapse-prevention strategies.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and contribute to care reviews, audits and service development in line with HCPC standards and best-practice guidance.
Person Specification
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience within eating disorder services or mental health settings is highly desirable.
  • Strong assessment, communication and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate, recovery-focused approach with a genuine commitment to supporting people to rebuild confidence, identity and independence.
