Overview

The Sutton Health and Care MSK service (SHC MSK) provides planned outpatient care for residents of Sutton. It offers triage, diagnosis optimisation, and therapies for injury, post‑surgery recovery, and long‑term MSK conditions. First Contact Practitioners (FCPs) are based in Carshalton, South Sutton, and Central Sutton PCN. The service supports Epsom and St Helier Hospital Fracture Clinic and the ESTH Spinal Elective Service.

Main Duties
  • Deliver safe, high‑quality MSK therapy to patients.
  • Assist with operational management and strategic development of the MSK service.
  • Continuously develop personal specialist practice in MSK therapy.
  • Participate in a specialist MSK training programme with rotation across sites.
  • Provide education and training to junior therapists and students.
  • Contribute to research, audit and evaluation of clinical practice.
  • Act as a clinical resource regarding MSK conditions.
  • Support development and sustainment of policies, protocols and guidelines.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Serve as a specialist MSK clinical resource within community services.
  • Assist with development of relevant policies, protocols, pathways and guidelines.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge and skills for practice as a specialist musculoskeletal therapist.
  • Use specialist dexterity, coordination and palpation senses for assessment and treatment.
  • Employ highly specialist rehabilitation and exercise therapy skills.
  • Deliver evidence‑based specialist musculoskeletal therapy to a caseload of patients.
  • Manage a caseload of MSK patients within the service.
  • Reach valid, reliable and comprehensive patient‑centred conclusions regarding diagnosis, prognosis and management.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse patients, including those with language, hearing, visual or cognitive challenges.
  • Empower patients to make informed choices about their health.
  • Collaborate with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to ensure a coordinated multidisciplinary service.
  • Maintain comprehensive records in line with legal and departmental requirements; provide letters and reports.
  • Comply with professional codes of practice, guidelines, trust policies and local policies at all times.
  • Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work.
