Job description
Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a person with experience of being in care and/or of attending Children’s Hearings to complete a Modern Apprenticeship (Business and Administration) in SCRA. It will be based within the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration’s office in Dundee. SCRA is committed to our Corporate Parenting role, and offering opportunities to people who are care‑experienced is a key part of that, so this role is protected for people who are or have been in care, and/or have experience of attending Children’s Hearings. The successful person will bring their experience of being in care or of the Children’s Hearings System (or both) to help SCRA in improving its services to children, young people and families while undertaking a recognised qualification.

Responsibilities

There are two parts to the post. You will be part of a friendly, supportive administration team where you will be providing reception as well as general administrative services in the office. We will support you to learn a wide range of administration tasks as well as providing you with training and development opportunities. Your job will be varied and include welcoming children, young people and families, professionals and Panel Members to Children’s Hearings, refreshing and maintaining the Hearing rooms, using IT, answering and transferring calls and taking messages, filing, processing confidential information, mail preparation, overseeing the provisions for children and young people in the Hearing rooms and reception areas, and generally supporting the smooth running of the office. We have a range of Hearing centres in the Locality, and you must be able to travel independently to get to these when it is required, whether by public transport or by car, and you will be provided with travel expenses for this. You will also be invited to take part in a variety of exciting participation activities for SCRA. This includes joining projects aimed at improving participation opportunities for children, young people and families attending Children’s Hearings, and taking part in SCRA’s groups, for example, our Voice of Experience Reference Group, our Corporate Parenting and Participation Group, and a selection of our Equality, Diversion and Inclusion Groups.

Qualifications

16 or older to apply. Ideally some work or volunteer experience. Good communication skills. Enthusiasm to learn. Care experienced.

Training and Development

The second part of the role will be undertaking the SVQ Level 3 element of the post. We offer an SVQ Level 3 in Business and Administration, supported by West Lothian College. The qualification is gained while you work and learn so your work experience in the office will contribute to the qualification.
