Herts Vision Loss is a local charity providing a wide range of support and services to visually impaired people, their families, and carers in Hertfordshire. There are over 26,000 visually impaired people in Hertfordshire, and additionally, over 35,000 people with long-term eye conditions that may result in sight loss. As society lives longer, Age-Related Macular Degeneration is the most common cause of sight loss. Every day, 100 people in the UK lose their sight, and without dedicated volunteers, HVL could not offer vital support and services. Losing sight is often more feared than a cancer diagnosis, and many people need someone to talk to and support them during this challenging time.
Volunteer qualities: Honest, reliable, flexible, good listening skills, good communicator, willing to learn, committed, has time to spare, wants to make a difference, common sense, experience working with visually impaired individuals (not essential).
