Job description
Overview

Join our team as a volunteer in care homes for the elderly. Your activities may include befriending and chatting with residents, organising and participating in leisure and social activities, and helping to enhance residents’ well-being and quality of life. This role offers opportunities to develop new skills, meet new people and create meaningful connections within a supportive community.

Opportunities are available for weekdays or weekends, during daytime or early evening at the following locations:

  • Glenfairn House Care Home - Sanctuary Care, 28 Racecourse Road, Ayr KA7 2UX
  • Queens Care Home, 34 Ardayre Road, Prestwick KA9 1QL

We are a not-for-profit organisation specialising in care for the elderly and operate over 110 care homes across England and Scotland.

If you would like to help our care homes through volunteering, opportunities are available for weekdays or weekends, daytime or early evening.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit volunteers to facilitate experiences for residents, either on an individual or group basis.
  • Engage in activities aligned with volunteers’ skills or interests (e.g., artistic, craft, musical, local history) to support leisure sessions within the care home.
  • Share your skills and interests to enhance residents’ experiences.
Travel expenses

Volunteers may travel to locations other than their usual place of volunteering and will be reimbursed in line with the Travel and Subsistence Group Procedure. Each home may determine whether to cover travel from the volunteer’s home as a goodwill gesture. We are mindful of individual financial situations and encourage discussions with your supervisor.

Support

Online course covering safeguarding, dementia awareness, GDPR, and life in a care home, plus a meet-and-greet and show round. The online course takes about an hour to complete, and the overall process typically takes 3–4 weeks.

Note: Taster experiences (meet-and-greet and show round) are available.
