Job description
About the Job

This role involves comprehensive management of legal operations across local and regional levels, particularly within the real estate and recovery domain. You will be responsible for coordinating with panel lawyers, overseeing standard legal report formats, processing payments, and handling title discussions. The position requires periodic visits to different regions to engage with lawyers, address emerging challenges, and introduce new processes. Additionally, you will initiate property valuations, organize legal reports, and ensure the vetting of original legal documents before signing off. Proficiency in legal recovery processes, including filing cases under Section 138 and CERSEI, is a crucial requirement for success in this role.

Job Description

The job encompasses a wide range of legal responsibilities that extend from coordinating with regional lawyers to ensuring regulatory compliance. You will oversee property-related legal matters, maintain clear communication channels with internal teams and clients, and facilitate the drafting and review of legal documents. Your work will include supervising mortgage registration processes, preparing legal agreements in standard formats, and maintaining updated records for all ongoing cases. Additionally, you will actively participate in litigation processes, assist recovery teams, and conduct thorough property checks to safeguard the company’s interests. Your role ensures legal compliance, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include identifying and addressing exceptions in property titles, ensuring the availability and accuracy of all legal documents, and resolving issues such as missing or damaged records. You will liaise with customers and different departments to coordinate legal report preparation, manage lawyer and vendor agreements, and support the recovery team in property and legal matters. The role also includes preparing indemnity bonds, affidavits, and registering mortgages when required. Additionally, you will be accountable for tracking legal cases, filing civil or criminal complaints, attending court hearings, and managing compliance with annual regulatory requirements, including RBI mandates.

Required Skills

To excel in this position, you must possess in-depth knowledge of key legal frameworks such as the Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Indian Penal Code, Companies Act, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), SARFAESI Act, Transfer of Property Act, Consumer Laws, and mortgage lending regulations. Practical expertise in lending, securitization, real estate, and charge creation is essential. You should be skilled in strategizing legal action for loan accounts, handling litigation, and applying relevant laws effectively. Strong negotiation skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work well within a team are critical for achieving results in this role.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should hold an LLB or LLM degree from a reputed Indian university, with 3–5 years of relevant experience in legal management, preferably in the real estate and recovery sector. Prior experience in litigation, mortgage handling, property valuation processes, and compliance with financial regulations will be highly advantageous. The ideal candidate will bring both legal expertise and a practical understanding of recovery operations, ensuring that all actions align with the company’s strategic goals and regulatory obligations. The role is based at our Kolkata (Park Street) office, requiring both field visits and office-based responsibilities.
