About WMPF

WMPF is one of the UK’s largest pension funds providing local authority pension benefits for employees across the West Midlands. We manage and administer the pension interests of over 330,000 scheme members, 800+ employers and currently have over £21 billion in assets under management.

We are recruiting for Lead Project Officer to join our continually growing Finance, Resourcing and Transformation Service area. Our brand‑new offices are based at the i9 building in Wolverhampton and is an excellent location for transport links by car, bus, train and tram.

What the day will look like

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage projects throughout the project lifecycle, using the organisations project management methodology. Project Managers are responsible for managing the medium to high profile/ risk projects where the project and stakeholder environments are of medium complexity.
  • To ensure there is a clear agreement in relation to the objectives, required outcomes, business impacts, delivery approach, risk trade‑offs and sequence of initiatives to be delivered for allocated projects.
  • To manage an outcomes based, benefits led delivery approach to a range of projects, to ensure that what is being delivered is what is required.
  • Responsible for confirming their project budget at the outset, their actual spend and their latest best estimate based upon factors known at the time of reporting.

You will be a confident and credible project management professional with proven experience in successfully leading complex, multi‑stakeholder projects from inception to delivery. You will bring strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels and manage relationships across diverse teams and partners. Highly organised and outcomes‑focused, you will demonstrate resilience, pragmatism, and an analytical approach to problem‑solving, ensuring projects are delivered within scope, budget, and agreed timeframes. With a commitment to continuous improvement, governance, and service transformation, you will be motivated by making a positive impact, supporting the Fund’s long‑term vision, and exceeding stakeholder expectations.
