Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test electromechanical instrumentation.

  • Diagnose faults and repair returned equipment.
  • Complete service documentation.
  • Support prototype builds and new product introduction.

Location: Cambridge (CB4)

Duration: Temporary - 3 initially, may be extended or go permanent

Hours: 8am - 4.30pm Monday - Friday - can be flexible (37.5 h/pw)

Salary: £15.00ph/circa £30,000 pa

We're seeking an experienced Instrument Assembly Technician to join the Production team of a growing life sciences and laboratory instrumentation business in Cambridge. This is a hands‑on role working on the assembly, testing, servicing and repair of advanced, human‑focused research instrumentation.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble and test electromechanical instrumentation in line with bills of materials and work instructions
  • Carry out incoming inspection of components and log non‑conformances
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing and service records
  • Support stock control, parts ordering and kitting activities
  • Diagnose faults and repair returned equipment, including fit‑for‑service testing
  • Complete service documentation and record parts used during repairsWork closely with engineering, commercial and logistics teams to meet production and repair deadlines
  • Support prototype builds and the introduction of new products into production
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities, including documentation updates and ERP process adoption
  • Occasionally support on‑site servicing, training activities and international travel
Requirements
  • Engineering qualification at ONC/City & Guilds/GNVQ Level 3-5, or equivalent practical experience
  • (Candidates working toward Level 3 or above will also be considered)
  • Experience in a manufacturing, assembly or technical production environment
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings
  • Experience using hand tools and working to a high level of precision
  • Experience in ESD‑controlled environments and hand soldering
  • Experience of leak testing in pneumatic systems
  • Some experience using ERP/MRP systems
  • High manual dexterity with excellent attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
