HVAC/Mechanical Engineer – Justice & Immigration Facilities Management

B7 Mechanical Operative

Full-time / Permanent / Monday‑Friday / On‑call Monday‑Sunday

Salary: Up to £33,390 + LWA £6,200 per annum (if applicable)

Serco is looking for a B7 Mechanical Operative. The purpose of the position is to carry out routine HVAC, mechanical and some electrical engineering work, preventative maintenance and repairs.

Main Accountabilities
  • Self‑motivation and initiative.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales.
  • Prioritise workload in a logical and methodical manner.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally (including good telephone manner).
  • Ensure pre‑planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as required.
  • Assist in multi‑trade support of other members of the FM service team to complete work.
  • Carry out duties of an HVAC/Mechanical/Electrical Engineer in accordance with recognised training and qualifications.
  • Fault finding and defect rectification on installed plant and equipment.
  • Installation of new plant and apparatus as defined and specified.
  • Become familiar with operation and maintenance of the various systems and equipment installed on the premises.
Additional Features Of The Role
  • Team member of the Facilities “Out of hours” call‑out roster.
What You Will Need To Do The Role
  • HVAC/Mechanical and electrical engineering qualification (C&G, NVQ).
  • Membership of relevant technical professional body desired but not essential.

  • Support to the Serco fleet, including work across towage, passenger vessels, pilotage and barges.
  • Health, safety and environmental awareness.
  • Must obtain Home Office Security Clearance.
